Quest Bar Chocolate Peanut Butter

Protein bars are an easy way to get a lot of protein fast without the need to eat huge proportions. Quest Bars are probably the most popular protein bars there are. I tested the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor. One 60 gram bar has
  • 20g protein per bar
  • just 2g sugar (stevia is used for sweetening)
  • 17g fibre
  • and it is also gluten free
If you worry about the carbs there's just 3g of net carbs according to this formula:
  • 25g Carbs - 17g Fiber - 5g Erythritol = 3g Net Carbs
The ingredients are: Protein blend (whey protein isolate, milk protein isolate), isomalto-oligosaccharides (prebiotic fiber), peanuts, water, erythritol, cocoa. Contains less than 2% of the following: sea salt, steviol glycosides (stevia), lo han guo, natural flavors. If you wonder what on earth are Isomalto-Oligosaccharides then I can tell that they are Prebiotic Fibers derived from plant sources.

One bar contains 160 calories. It has 5g of fat of which 1 g is saturated fat but 0g trans fat. So quite low fat, about one teaspoon.

Then the taste: The bar is quite thick and chewy. If you want to eat it in pieces you'll need a knife. There are small bits of peanut but which are the only thing to bring a little texture to the bar. Otherwise it is a solid cocoa bar but with a distinct peanut butter flavor. It is not too sweet at all, so you won't get thirsty or feel like you've been eating candy. The sea salt brings the flavors out  and with the peanuts it reminds me a little bit of Snickers. It doesn't taste too artificial or processed so I quite like it.

In addition top the taste, Quest Bar's strenght is the whey protein. Why whey protein is good for you?
